Enrique Torres Tortós is a Costa Rican artist whose work he describes as profoundly human. He grew up in a difficult family environment characterized by deprivation and aggressive relationships, circumstances that left perceptible marks on him. He graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Costa Rica, with a specialization in Painting, a discipline in which he finds the ideal channel to externalize his inner universe.

 

From his challenging life circumstances, Enrique retains memories that shape his thinking and lead him to become Kayejero, the alter ego that reflects his perspective on his environment and the urban life that surrounds him. Thus, he embarks on a journey of understanding his reality, delving into the particularities of his surroundings and transforming this process into personal catharsis.

Kayejero does not abandon his origins, he does not forget his roots when he chooses a subject to transform into a canvas; he reconstructs his experiences and transforms them into a silent cry that externalizes what he feels. He does not disguise his existence; he engages in dialogue with the viewer, revealing his inner self without any vulnerability. In his work, he offers us his true self, without any artifice or pretense.

 

The artist has symbolically transformed into an alchemist of the visual arts, creating works of great vitality that allow him to journey inward, to lighten what oppresses him, to transform his negative emotions into positive lessons of life. He surprises us with images of the everyday that become irreverent scenes of routine, and with a body of work rich in elements. His artistic creation is frequently an amalgam of abstraction and figuration, employing mixed media techniques that allow him to express what comes gushing from his imagination. His constant quest to find new procedures and materials that allow him to expand his creative vein has led him to a tenacious search that defines his work as undeniably contemporary, yet undeniably timeless.

 

Twenty-five years of professional career have allowed Kayejero to exhibit his work in single and group expositions; Costa Rica, Brazil, Mexico, Panama, the United States, and Singapore have all served as venues for showcasing the creations of this talented artist. His work is part of numerous private collections.
