Daniela Márten

A Costa Rican artist, she graduated from the School of Fine Arts at the University of Costa Rica and received independent training from Joaquín Rodríguez del Paso, Nelly Eyo, and Nela Salgado.

She was one of the invited artists in the first exhibition of the feminist collective Casa Ma and in Valoarte 2012. She has participated in several exhibitions curated at Klaus Steinmetz Contemporary and the CASINO auctions at John Juric Art Studio.

I believe that exploring eroticism and seeking freedom through sexuality is a tool for expressing the female psyche, a way to counteract the oppression of women.

My works are inspired by the tropical exuberance that surrounds me. I examine forms in nature, especially flowers, and their relationship to eroticism and creative energy, employing colors, layers, and aggressive techniques on the canvas.

I have been drawn to using paint in different media due to a lifelong fascination with colors and visual aesthetics. I also experiment with fabrics and textiles because I'm passionate about the geometry and symbols present in techniques historically used by women.

I have a need to connect with people and contribute in some way through these obsessions.
