Sebastián López Durán

In every stroke, note, or constructed space resides the echo of the creator's soul. Art is not only expression, it is a dialogue, and that’s why we find in the artistic creations of Sebastián Lopez Durán a visual language that has allowed him to communicate with the outside world.

Born in Guatemala, Sebastián was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in his teens. At 17, his mother recognized his innate artistic abilities, which he developed through self-study. This talent has served as an emotional bridge, allowing him to project his inner world. Through every pigment and every stroke, he tells us who he is and how he sees reality. The texture of his paintings, created with oil, acrylic, pastel, and enamel, along with the phrases he writes on his works, expresses what is going through his mind during the creative process. Sebastián has perfected a distinctive style with vibrant colors and a powerful emotional charge. His work brings together identity, spirituality, and the human condition, under an aesthetic that fuses the heritage of Expressionism with Cubist structures, capturing the essence of a personal journey between the canvas and emotion. One could say that for Sebastián, painting is living; it is not an aesthetic exercise, but the very heartbeat of his existence. His artistic potential has constantly evolved, and each work reflects this transformation.

Georgia O’Keeffe stated that she discovered she could express things with color and form, things she couldn’t express otherwise because she couldn’t find the words. This has been the path followed by Sebastián, for whom art is a personal refuge, a silent voice, a means of transforming intense feelings into colors and images, liberating his inner essence without restrictions. His artistic creation has been an open door to getting to know him and also a tangible testament to the surprising and rewarding creative capacity of humankind. It showcases the transformative power of diversity to enhance our lives and strengthen society.

Sebastián has received numerous awards and participated in many group and solo exhibitions in Guatemala, England, Italy, France, Spain, and the United States. His work is part of private collections around the world.
